Need a New Hobby? Try One of These!

Need a New Hobby? Try One of These!

Being college students, it can be hard to find free time for our favorite leisure activities and/or hobbies. Below I have acquired a list of some hobbies that are simple and easy to pick up. With time, one of these hobbies might just become your new favorite!

1. Reading

If you are anything like myself, reading can be a great way to escape life and just relax. I constantly find myself getting lost in the pages of a good book. The key to turning reading into a hobby is to find what you enjoy reading. There is such a wide variety of genres out there to choose from. Unsure which genre is for you? There are free quizzes online that can help you narrow down your options. Give it a try!

2. Photography

Love to take pictures? Why not make a hobby out of it! You don’t have to be a professional photographer to take pictures and post them online, and you don’t even have to live in the most beautiful place! Photography is what you make of it, so go out and take some photos! You might just fall in love with it.

3. Blogging

Starting a blog is another great way to express yourself in your free time. People start blogs about anything and everything. There are even free sites online where you can make your own blog website! Just find what you are passionate about and start writing! Heck, your blog could even be just about your day-to-day life. Just have fun with it!

4. Vlogging

Not big on writing? Try vlogging! Vlogging is based around the same idea as blogging except, instead of writing, you make a video! The term itself literally means video blogging. Some vlog channel ideas could be anything from you and your dog going on a hike, you and your family on the lake, or even just a day of errands. As long as you are creating and having fun, your vlog channel can feature whatever you wish!

5. Learn Calligraphy

Need a hobby that is a little more hands-on? Try calligraphy! Calligraphy is basically just ornamented cursive handwriting, but it takes lots and lots of practice. That being said, don’t get discouraged if you don’t get the hang of it right away. There are also different styles of calligraphy to choose from, so pick your favorite, stick with it, and you could be writing calligraphy like a pro in no time. PLUS - lots of people hire artists to write calligraphy on signage for weddings, parties, etc. Who knows? This could open new career opportunities for you, too!

There are endless possibilities when it comes to finding a new hobby. I just recently picked up reading and, in addition to enjoying it, it has provided me with a way to escape from my phone for little periods of time. That being said, be sure to take the time to find what YOU enjoy and what makes you happy. That is the most important part after all!
