Meeting Other Creative People in a Media-Based World

Meeting Other Creative People in a Media-Based World

Being a creator, it can be difficult to find other creators to collaborate or hang out with, especially nowadays when mostly everyone’s face is buried in social media. Maybe you have tried to make friends with other creators at school, but it just hasn’t worked out and you are looking for a new environment to create in. Either way, in order to help you meet new creative friends, I have created a list of easy, accessible ways which can help you do just that!

1. FACEBOOK GROUPS

Facebook groups are a great way to find like-minded people. I recommend searching your Facebook for groups that focus on your interests. For example, if I was a TikTok creator looking for other content creators to collaborate with, I would simply search TikTok creators on Facebook, scroll to groups, and select a group that interests me. You could even try to filter your results by searching for College Content Creators or something similar. You never know what you’ll find!

2. LOCAL EVENTS

Once you find a group that you enjoy and are ready to take that next step in meeting local artists, sometimes Facebook groups will hold local meetups! I recommend taking a friend with you if it is your first time meeting these people face-to-face just to be safe. Before the pandemic, I attended a local artist meetup at a coffee shop and it was a lovely experience. I highly encourage you to give it a try if you are up for it!

3. LOCAL ART CLASSES

Signing up for a local art class is a great way to meet new, like-minded people. I highly recommend taking a painting class! Even if painting isn’t your strong suit, these classes can be super fun and it is likely that you will find someone who likes a new creative challenge, too! Remember, any new connections you make can possibly open doors to new friendships and creative opportunities. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and say hello!

While meeting new friends, especially creative ones, can pose a challenge most of the time, there are resources out there that can help open new doors for you. I encourage you to, safely, put yourself out there, see what you can find, and, most importantly, HAVE FUN!
